HUNTER, N.D. — U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong stopped at Northern Cass School Friday, Jan. 31, to give a group of high school social studies students an up-close look at the impeachment proceedings in Washington.

The North Dakota Congressman made a trip to the school after seeing WDAY's story last week about a class learning about the historical event as it unfolds. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, Armstrong was a part of the impeachment process from the beginning.

"Everything begins and ends with politics," he said. "To understand what is going on and how our government works is important for kids who are juniors and seniors in high school."

With strong opinions on both sides of the debate, Armstrong walked the students through the impeachment process and rules. Regardless of their political views, he said he wants students to find their own truth and not just believe what they've seen on social media.

"Look at other articles, look at opposing viewpoints, figure out where they're at and understand that there is often more to the story," he said.

The students said they liked the perspective that Armstrong brought from being a part of the process.

"I have definitely been educated in-depth on ... impeachment from not just a political stance but from facts," said junior Jessica Schonhoff.

Some said they'll be taking their knowledge to the polls in November.

"Since I am 18 now, I can kind of use what he told me to make a smart decision," said senior Brooke Degerness.

Armstrong has also visited the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and Century High School in Bismark to talk about the impeachment process.
