December 2, 2020

WASHINGTON Today, Congressman Kelly Armstrong announced that he has nominated four North Dakotans to the U.S. service academies: Maguire Martin of Bismarck to the U.S. Air Force Academy; Ty Stromberg of Larimore to the U.S. Air Force Academy; Matt Warrell of Williston to the U.S. Naval Academy; and Barrett Connor of Devils Lake to the U.S. Military Academy.

"Maguire, Ty, Matt, and Barrett have committed to serving our Nation in the U.S. Armed Forces, and I am proud to nominate them to the service academies," said Congressman Armstrong (N.D.). "I join their family, friends, neighbors, and all North Dakotans in thanking them and wishing them the best as they represent our great state."

Maguire Martin, Bismarck – U.S. Air Force Academy
Maguire is a senior at Century High School in Bismarck. His extracurricular activities include football and track & field, and participating in the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar and the Naval Academy Summer Seminar. He was inducted into the National Honors Society and has maintained a 3.92 grade point average.

Ty Stromberg, Larimore – U.S. Air Force Academy
Ty is a senior at Larimore High School in Larimore. His extracurricular activities include captain of the football team and the trap shooting team, student body president, serving as a volunteer tutor, and membership in Riverwatch, which focuses on providing education about water quality to students and the public in the Red River Water Basin.

Matt Warrell, Williston – U.S. Naval Academy
Matt is a student at the Army and Navy Academy in California where he participates in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), serving on the color guard, honor guard drill team, and parade. His high school extracurricular activities included National Honor Society, soccer, track & field, and JROTC where he was a member of the Raider team.

Barrett Connor, Devils Lake – U.S. Military Academy
Barrett is a senior at Devils Lake High School in Devils Lake. His extracurricular activities include National Honor Society, captain of the hockey, participating in baseball and shooting sports, and serving as an officer for his DECA chapter.

The service academies other than the U.S. Coast Guard Academy require a nomination from their U.S. Representative, one of their U.S. Senators, or the Vice President of the United States to attend. Armstrong has nominated these four individuals to the respective academy, and each academy admission board will determine final appointments.
