Congressman Kelly Armstrong’s Statement on the 319th Reconnaissance Wing Re-Designation
WASHINGTON – Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R, N.D.) released the following statement on the re-designation of the 319th Air Base Wing at Grand Forks Air Force Base as the 319th Reconnaissance Wing:
“Grand Forks Air Force Base and its talented, hard-working airmen play a pivotal role in national security and defense. With the re-designation of the 319th Air Base Wing as the 319th Reconnaissance Wing, Grand Forks Air Force Base is leading the nation in Global Hawk operations, projecting power and collecting intelligence around the globe. Between this mission and the private sector’s research and development, Grand Forks is now a hub for the unmanned aerial systems industry, further cementing North Dakota’s role in the future of the U.S. Air Force.”
Last month, then-Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson announced the re-designation of the 319th Air Base Wing as the 319th Reconnaissance Wing. The re-designation aligns the 69th Reconnaissance Group, previously under the 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base in California, with the 319th, the Grand Forks Air Force Base host wing.
The official re-designation ceremony is scheduled for today, June 28, at Grand Forks Air Force Base in conjunction with the change of command from Col. Benjamin Spencer to Col. Cameron Pringle.
