Congressman Kelly Armstrong's Statement on the President's National Emergency Declaration

February 15, 2019

WASHINGTON - Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R, N.D.), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on the vote on H.J. Res. 46 to overturn President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency on the southern border:

"The crisis on our southern border needs to be addressed now and President Trump did what needs to be done by declaring a national emergency. For years, Congress and past administrations have kicked this can down the road. I will continue to work with the administration to better address the emergency, build the wall and stop the flow of drugs and human trafficking. I am concerned that because of our failure to act we are opening the door to future abuses."

Armstrong is in his first term as the lone representative for the state of North Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives.
